Hand block printing is one of Rajasthan's oldest textile crafts. Here is how a Tathastu piece comes to life.
1. The block
Each design begins as a set of wooden blocks, carved by hand. A single print can need several blocks, one for the outline and one for each colour.
2. The cloth
We start with 100% pure cotton, prepared so it takes the colour evenly.
3. Printing by hand
The printer dips each block in colour and presses it onto the cloth by hand, repeat after repeat, lining every impression up by eye. We use eco-friendly, skin-friendly dyes.
4. Setting the colour
The printed cloth is dried and finished so the colours set into the fibre.
5. Stitching
Our quilts are filled with cotton and quilted by hand in Jaipur, giving them their soft, rippled texture. Bedsheets are cut and finished with matching pillow covers.
6. Checked and packed
Every piece is checked before it is packed and sent to you.
Why no two are the same
Because each repeat is pressed by hand, you will see small variations in colour and slight shifts where blocks meet. These are not flaws. They are proof that a person, not a machine, made your piece.
